I feel soooo accomplished. I took the retightening course in Baltimore on Saturday. It was taught by Dana Hagan of Alexandria, VA.
We talked, practiced, and learned the technique....(the Sisterlocks secret!!!), and signed forms that stated we weren't consultants (lol). I got the hook and the clip tool, and some product, which was a huge question for me when I was signing up for the class. $250 is a lot of money and I wanted to know what I was getting.
Aside from getting irritated by a know-it-all chic taking a refresher, I had a pretty good time. I think by the time I left, I had retightened 10 locs using both tools. 720+ to go!
I had a three day weekend to finish as much as possible. I finished the front.

As you can see, the front is sized much smaller than the ones in the back.
I am really appreciating my consultant right now...and I'm actually surprised I got so much done. Most of that 700? Up there, in the front. Happy? Most def. I gotta gain speed though. I used both tools, joined a couple (but fixed them), and got a knot in one (minor issue). Not bad for a rookie, hunh? What's left?
D'oh!On another note, I was out with some male friends about a week ago. It has been raining quite sporadically around these parts, and torrential storming when the rain falls. We were in the mall, and were about to go to dinner, when we realized that it had started pouring. They were hesitant, but after my taunting about how brown suga melts, they decided to "man up" and make a run for it. Right before we busted out of the door, one said," That's what I'm talking about, you're the only sista I know that isn't crying about the rain and her hair!!" So you know that stroked my ego right? To top it off, I asked the other one (another day) if he was happy with the decision I made to get Sisterlocks (he doesn't know what they're called, he was very hesitant when I told him about them initially, and really is a perm kinda guy), and he told me he liked it, its versatile, its quick and it fits me. Wow. That's a lot coming from him.
He recently saw the hook tool and my progress, and said,"Man, that little thing did all that?"
I know man, I know.

YAY!!!!!! You are now part of the DIY crew. I may take that class some day but paying that $250 just isn't an option. I can't believe you have over 700 locks!!!!
Isn't it nice to not worry about the weather conditions? Not having to wear a plastic bag over your head is reason enough to get Sisterlocks!! LOL!!!!
Congrats! Just practice and don't put it off. Get your arms in shape! But since you massage, it shouldn't be a problem for you! Wishing you all the best!!!!
I should have taken the class with you. but I knew I could not fit it in that weekend. It's looking good. I can't wait till I'll be able to do my own head.
Your locks are so cute! I am jumping over the retight class and going str8 to the consultant class. I am not a DIY gal but I like doing other people's hair...weird huh?
Thanks for sharing! I have over 700+ locs in also. I wasn't sure anyone else had locs as small as mine. I am also going to take the consultant course in August.
Love the freedom of playing in the rain!!! Isn't it fun?
Meikmeika and qb's daughter:
I've never really tripped off of the rain. Even with a blowout, I just had to be careful about swelling. I do love that the integrity of my hairstyle is rarely affected now.
I really do love my Sisterlocks size, I'm just hoping I don't really regret this when my hair is twice as long. I'm trying to be optimistic. I'm booked out till the end of the year with my consultant. We agreed to combat my head together.
Maryee:
Thanks! The only pain I had was in my neck....that was terrible. My left elbow was a little sore, but it wasn't that bad. I always thought I was weak in the arms, but I guess not!

You've had so much on your plate, I competely understand! When you learn how to retighten, it's gonna go quick for you, I can tell already!

If I had the money, I would've taken the full course. Right now, I feel like I'm missing something. I know my pattern, I'm pretty good at keeping the lines clean and all, but yes, I want more info. My consultant has been teasing me because I didn't take the full course, and she's been telling me from day one that I should. I told her to pay for it and I would gladly go...lol!
Congrats on finishing the class! My initial install consultant has 800 locks! I can't believe the effort it takes to maintain that. Your hair looks fantastic so it's all worth it.
I could never tighten 700+ locks but kudos to you for doing so. Welcome to the DIY club and I hope you are enjoying your journey! Just like Maryee said, just be patient and take your time which is what I have to do w/ my locks. At least you don't have a thick head of hair that grows to fast. :-)
Greetings to you Amina. Your hair is beautiful. I am also from Maryland and am seriously considering sisterlocks (possibly micro). Did you get them done in the area? If so, I would love the info. I'm at LethaLetha@Gmail.com.
PS the color looks great. Were you able to achieve that with henna alone (no bleaching/lightening)? .. Would love to see a full photo of the final product.
Peace and Love,
L
Absolutely Awesome locks! I can not imagine having to retighten that many locks? Which tool do you like the best, the hook tool or clip tool? Your color looks really good too! Go diva!!!!
